From this side of the press

Hello & welcome — I hope you are having a great start to fall season!

I’ve been easing into autumn by spending time in nature, road tripping, opening my studio to the public, and as always, keeping busy in the studio.

From adding finishing touches to the 2026 calendar and prepping for upcoming shows, here’s a little recap of what I’ve been up to and what’s in store for the coming months…

Finding inspiration in community

The last weekend of September I went on a road trip to Oakville, ON to the Howard Iron Works Museum’s Print Expo. As it was my first visit to this museum I was awe-struck by all the presses, equipment and printed materials. In addition to geeking out over the museum’s collection, I was able to print on a number of their presses set up for demonstration — I was in my element!

The highlight of my adventure was definitely meeting Amos Kennedy Jr., a letterpress printer from Detroit, MI. He was very gracious with his time and knowledge, and quite humourous to boot! Amos’ work is engaging and inspiring — I highly recommend checking out his work here.

Studio goings on

Currently I’m putting the finishing touches on my 2026 calendar, and, well the process isn’t always clear or smooth for me…

As I brainstormed the theme and look of the calendar I was struggling with a feeling of heaviness, mainly due to the state of our world — locally, south of the boarder, globally… not much was coming forth in my sketches or notes and I was becoming quite frustrated. In stepping back, I reflected on an artist statement I wrote recently, where I spoke a bit about my process: I create…with the intent of providing the viewer some respite from the heaviness of the world around them. This reminder was a jumping off point, and taking things a step further, I attempted make space for play in 2026!

And so, for next year’s desk calendar when the monthly cards are laid out they will create a board game on which to play. It’s a bit of a departure from previous years and am excited to see people’s reactions…stay tuned!

Studio Tour

Last month I took part in the PEC Studio Tour — it was a rewarding and fulfilling experience!

I welcomed over 130 people to my studio over three days! It was touching to see the support of the local community, as well as those coming from neighbouring areas. It was fantastic connecting with people through thoughtful conversations, idea sharing and delicious baked goods (thank you for the sustenance my friends!)

I am very grateful to tour organizers and fellow artists, as well as all who stopped in for the Tour – the experience will no doubt shape my work going forward!

Thank you for your continued support and allowing me to pop in to your inbox!

Until next time,
– Lucy xo

UPDATE // Unfortunately, I have had to shut my online shop while the Canada Post strike is happening — I am hopeful things will come to a resolution soon (fingers crossed!) I do hope folks will be able to come see me in person at a market or show —so much better than shopping online if you are able to do so!
